It seems the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association is taking a firm stance on the Ministry of Health’s delay in disbursing allowances. The ultimatum reflects their frustration with the prolonged wait for payment, impacting the trainees’ education and well-being
PRESS STATEMENT ON RESOLUTION OF NURSE-MIDWIVE TRAINEES’ ARREARS
Following recent updates on the payment of overdue stipends to trainee nurses and midwives, the Ghana Nurse Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) conveys appreciation mixed with deep disappointment. While recognizing the partial settlement of arrears for two months, we express gratitude to the Ministry of Health for this effort.
Despite the explicit commitment made in recent high-level discussions with key stakeholders, including the esteemed Minister of Health, the apparent shortfall in the disbursed amount has left us in a state of shock and disbelief. It is disheartening that, despite the assurance of financial clearance granted to the Controller and Accountant General, only a fraction of the long-overdue two years’ arrears, out of which seven months’ worth was to be received, has been settled. This disjunction between commitment and action is not only perplexing but also raises concerns about the transparency and efficiency of the financial processes involved.
In light of the ongoing circumstances, the Ghanaian Teachers’ Union deems it imperative to present a deadline to the Ministry of Education. We demand the prompt resolution of the outstanding four months’ salary arrears by December 15. This ultimatum emphasizes the critical need to address the existing discrepancy and uphold the agreements forged during our cooperative dialogues.
While we acknowledge receipt of the partial payment, it is crucial to underscore that such contributions, while appreciated, substantially deviate from fulfilling the financial responsibilities owed to our devoted trainee nurses and midwives. Our commitment to open dialogue remains unwavering, yet should the stipulated deadline pass without the comprehensive settlement of outstanding dues, we reluctantly assert our prerogative to explore alternative avenues for resolving this issue. We earnestly pursue a swift and equitable resolution, upholding the integrity of commitments made to our members.
In summary, it is imperative for the Ministry of Education to contemplate the seriousness of the matter and implement decisive measures to guarantee the settlement of overdue allowances. Our dedicated teachers and educators deserve nothing short of the timely and fair remuneration pledged to them.
Sincerely
Adumbisa Pascal
National President,GNMTA
